Extremely rare
Lot 1689
SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Antiochos I Soter (?), 281-261 BC. Obol (Silver, 11 mm, 0.66 g, 1 h), uncertain mint in the East. Head of an elephant to right. Rev. A B Horned head of a horse to right. SC 407. An extremely rare elephant and horse head obol. Struck from rusty and somewhat worn dies and with minor areas of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

For a connected issue with a similar horned horse on the reverse, see lot 1688 above. SC assigns the present issue to Antiochos I, but it might as well have been issued in the joint rule of Seleukos I and his son, when the latter was administrating the East, or perhaps even under Seleukos' sole reign.
